Message from Organising Chairman Dear Friends and Colleagues We warmly invite you to come and actively participate in the forthcoming 45th Singapore Malaysia Congress of Medicine 2011. We anticipate this 45th SMCM to be a refreshing and relevant meeting as we are inviting speakers who are experts in promoting best practices of doctors; in handling ethical challenges; in team-based private-public integrated medical care; in disease management updates; and many more. The theme Integration, Innovation and Holistic Care is a testimony of the changing healthcare environment we are engaged in today, as we strive to provide cost-effective, timely and appropriate care to our patients. Some of us are involved in the training of our younger generation of medical students and residents, and try to be good teachers and mentors to them. Others are engaged in the discovery of new drugs, devices or techniques that will bring better outcomes to our patients. Everyone has something to share. We anticipate a dynamic exchange of knowledge, experience and practical tips on how we cope with the daily challenges in clinical practice and medical education. Parallel to this enthusiasm, we desire to establish long lasting collaborative efforts in basic and translational research amongst the three academies of medicine (Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong) and beyond.
